Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Waltham, MA, USA) has launched its new SpeciMax raw saliva collection kit that will enable safe, cost-effective SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing with a universal kit that fits within existing workflows and saves time and space over current, non-standardized collection methods.

Thermo Fisher’s SpeciMax is optimal for raw saliva collection as it can be self-administered with its medical grade packaged convenient funnel tube and cap. The kit contains a 6mL bar coded collection tube that seamlessly fits into current automation racks, thus saving time and space. SpeciMax is compatible with viral RNA extraction and direct to PCR workflows for easy and low-cost testing. The kit is compatible with MagMAX viral nucleic acid isolation kits (RUO), KingFisher, TaqCheck, TaqMan and other systems.

The SpeciMax raw saliva collection kit offers several benefits over nasal swab and nasopharyngeal collection such as non-invasive sample collection, self-administration and tube sized for automation racks. SpeciMax is available in single use individually packaged kits in cases of 400.
