MEDLAB Middle East 2020 Addresses Future of Laboratory Medicine

Over 25,800 medical laboratory industry professionals and 600 exhibitors from 35 countries met in Dubai for MEDLAB Middle East, the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region’s largest medical laboratory exhibition and congress, which took place from 3-6 February 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. As the MENA region’s largest medical laboratory exhibition and congress, MEDLAB Middle East plays a crucial role in developing the value of laboratory medicine in transforming tomorrow’s diagnostics by providing a platform for laboratory industry leaders, including manufacturers, dealers and distributors, to share best practice, showcase new innovations, collaborate and network. MEDLAB Middle East stems from 15 years of growth alongside the MENA region's largest healthcare event, Arab Health. Moving into its 4th year as a stand-alone show, this annual medical laboratory meeting brings together exhibitors and attendees from over 135+ countries, giving them the opportunity to present the latest innovations, as well as access cutting-edge laboratory products and services.

With laboratory services in the MEA region expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.8% until 2023, the 2020 edition of the show witnessed an increase in both the value of business and the number of attendees in comparison to last year. The four-day show organized by Informa Markets hosted the inaugural Transformation Hub, a dedicated zone showcasing advanced clinical laboratory products by the SMEs and new-to-market pioneers that are transforming diagnostics and advancing healthcare. The zone also featured the Transformation Talks sessions where manufacturers introduced new launches and in-demand solutions. Some of the key areas that were highlighted at the Transformation Hub included automation, healthcare information technology (HIT) and laboratory measurement testing and technology.

In addition to the Transformation Hub, MEDLAB Middle East also hosted a series of free-to-attend workshops, hosted by the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) and Bio-Rad, where a hands-on approach to learning and knowledge-sharing on new product offerings, technology and best practice took place. Workshops included Transfusion and blood typing challenges; Laboratory quality management system, the best of CLSI; and Laboratory accreditation, CAP updates.

MEDLAB Middle East also offered an educational agenda for clinical laboratory specialists to advance their skill sets, inspire and to provide advanced medical laboratory techniques for better health. More than 4,500 conference delegates had the opportunity to hear from 120 speakers from around the world, across 12 Continuing Medical Education (CME) accredited conferences.

The 2020 edition of the show saw the introduction of four new conference tracks, including Blood Transfusion Medicine, Laboratory Innovation, Digital Pathology and the Roundtable Discussions, which featured focused scientific group discussions on selected administration and technical topics in the medical laboratory.
