Beckman Coulter, Inc. (Brea, CA, USA) featured its latest clinical chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, urinalysis and microbiology solutions at AACC 2019 and demonstrated how they can be configured to meet the specific needs of any sized laboratory. During the Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo, the company demonstrated how laboratories of all sizes could elevate their performance and advance patient care through the power automation and clinical informatics.
Beckman Coulter highlighted its portfolio of WorkflowConnect, WorkflowAdvanced, and WorkflowCommand automation solutions that are designed to meet the needs of small-, mid- and high-volume laboratories. The company also showcased its newest total laboratory automation solution, the DxA 5000 which helps deliver unparalleled rapid and consistent turnaround times, provides a new level of comprehensive pre-analytical sample quality detection and significantly reduces the number of manual processing steps to improve laboratory efficiency.
The DxA 5000 utilizes a universal centrifugation protocol that significantly reduces the pre-analytical processing time by up to 73% for connected analyzers across multiple disciplines. Additionally, it supports laboratories in delivering highly consistent turnaround time to their physicians. Leveraging first-of-its-kind dynamic system software, the DxA 5000 utilizes Intelligent Routing to bring automated patient-centric workflow to the laboratory. By understanding the tests requested, sample volume available and real-time analyzer capacity and status, it continuously calculates the most expeditious route for every patient sample—both STAT and routine.
At AACC 2019, Beckman Coulter also demonstrated how the modular open platform of the Copan WASP DT: Walkaway Specimen Processor adapts to the changing needs of every clinical microbiology laboratory. The company demonstrated how it can automate all core aspects of microbiology specimen processing, including plating and streaking, gram-stain slide preparation and enrichment broth inoculation.
“Around the globe, hospital laboratories face staffing and operational challenges. As a result, we see laboratory managers taking an integrated workflow approach and embracing automation to streamline laboratory operations. In the past, only high-volume laboratories were able to reap the benefits of automation. Now, because of solutions from Beckman Coulter, all laboratories — low-, mid- and high-volume — can access the power of automation to optimize their laboratory and improve efficiency,” said Julie Sawyer Montgomery, senior vice president at Beckman Coulter.
“Automation plays a critical role in addressing a myriad of challenges faced by laboratories. At the AACC conference, we will demonstrate a variety of scenarios designed to highlight how our solutions help laboratories improve analytical performance, increase operational efficiency and reduce manual work steps, freeing up valuable time for laboratorians to better partner with clinicians,” continued Sawyer Montgomery.
