Small Benchtop Analyzer Offers Large Menu of Chemical Tests

A new benchtop chemistry analyzer provides a menu of over 100 tests. With low operating costs, it is suitable as a backup analyzer for hospitals or as a primary analyzer for small hospitals and physician office laboratories where space is a limited.

Called the BioLis 24i, the analyzer can perform 400-test per hour and has a menu of over 100 chemistries. Requiring only 31 inches (approximately 75 cm) of bench space, the instrument's large menu includes comprehensive metabolic, basic, hepatic, renal, anemia, and lipid panel tests. It also tests for specific proteins including immunoglobulins, C3, C4, transferrin, haptoglobin, antistreptolysin (ASO), rheumatoid factor (RF), C-reactive protein (CRP), prealbumin, and Apo lipoprotein (APO) lipoproteins. In addition, the analyzer can perform diabetic screening tests and tests for therapeutic drugs and drugs of abuse.

The analyzer has permanent cuvettes and a distilled water system. A thorough 10-step cuvette wash station administers heated alkaline and acid washes before and after each run prevents carryover. Positive sample ID and elimination of instrument programming are achieved with bidirectional interface and barcoded primary tube sampling. A laboratory information system (LIS) interface into electronic medical records (EMR) is also easily achieved. Thirty-day onboard reagent stability and 14-day calibration stability make daily start up a matter of running quality control (QC).

BioLis 24i is a marketed by Carolina Chemistries (Los Angeles, CA, USA). The company's technical representatives and service engineers install the analyzer and provide training in its use. The BioLis 24i is installed with a water system and drain into a sink. Electrical requirement of 110 VAC allow it to be installed anywhere.
