正在开发中的一套诊断平台利用线性二色性(LD)现象，可作多种用途。这项技术的关键特性是它能同时测量同一份样本里的多个靶体。

这项技术是英国伯明翰的线性诊断有限责任公司发明的，该公司是伯明翰大学的校办企业。科学家可以用与溶液中靶体结合的检测探针修饰分子。如果样本里有细菌，探针就会与不同的细菌靶体结合，从而改变微流控液流中所附着分子的排列。可以用抗体作为探针，它能识别特定的细菌细胞表面标志物，探针也可能是短DNA片段，它包括的基因序列能识别特定的细菌转录本或者抗生素耐受性的编码基因。
线性诊断公司的检验产品不要求预先制备样本，虽然科学家们强调该产品一开始将主要用于尿路感染(UTI)，但是既可检验尿样，又可检验全血样本。尽管方便快速的浸量尺检验这样的技术能指示细菌的存在，但它们缺少抗生素耐受性方面的信息，而线性诊断公司的技术能做到。据估计，在平台上运行的检验需花费20美元，也就是15英镑。
