为了加强患者的利益，AACC敦促美国医保和医疗补助服务中心以及美国食品药品管理局(FDA)要求DTC化验的提供者披露有关其产品和服务的足够信息，使消费者能够在充分知情的基础上做决策。这些供应商应该提供：以用户友好的方式描述所提供的全部检验项目的风险、优点和局限性；清楚而可理解的检验结果报告，辅助决策的足够信息；明确告诉消费者如有问题或疑虑速联系有资格的医疗单位；公开列出所提供的检验项目及其收费。
医疗化验专业人士对于这一消费者驱动的过程是不可或缺的。AACC鼓励医疗化验专业人员与联邦政府机构合作，告知公众DTC化验的费用、好处、解读和局限性。同样，消费者做有关自身健康的决策时应该咨询有资格的专业人员。
