Beckman Coulter (Brea, CA, USA) demonstrated how laboratories can improve patient outcomes with accurate detection of antimicrobial resistance and enhance workflow efficiency with its MicroScan microbiology solutions at ECCMID 2022.

Emerging antimicrobial resistance continues to be a critical issue in today’s healthcare environment. Resistance that was once considered unusual is now routine, and the microbiology laboratory has increasingly many ways, including rapid methods, to test for antimicrobial resistance. Beckman Coulter’s integrated symposium at ECCMID 2022 examined the central role of susceptibility testing and the determination of MICs in a variety of laboratory health care settings. Topics examined included new mechanisms of resistance, laboratory testing protocols and standardization across organizations, and the importance of MICs as well as SIR categories in defining antibiotic treatment, particularly with new antibiotics.

In addition, Beckman Coulter displayed its full suite of MicroScan microbiology solutions designed for every laboratory through its virtual showcase in 3D. Among its innovations for managing emerging microbial resistance that were presented virtually was the company’s DxM MicroScan WalkAway ID/AST System for the detection of emerging and critical antimicrobial resistance with gold-standard1 MIC accuracy. Designed with ease of use as a focal point, this bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (ID/AST) system provides streamlined workflows and enhanced performance compared to its predecessors. It enables laboratories to optimize patient care while reducing risks, costs and operational burden associated with detecting emerging antimicrobial resistance.
