Rapid New Resequencing Array

A new custom array can sequence 30,000 bases in just two days at greater than 99.99% accuracy.

Called the CustomSeq Resequencing Array, the array offers researchers a powerful DNA analysis tool on the same platform that has become the industry standard for mRNA gene expression research. CustomSeq arrays are based on the GeneChip technology of Affymetrix (Santa Clara, CA, USA). Using whole wafers, Perlegen Sciences, Inc. recently resequenced 50 human genomes in just 15 months.

The ability to create individual, exportable custom arrays to resequence this amount of DNA opens up an entirely new world of research to scientists,” said Greg Yap, senior director of marketing for DNA analysis. "CustomSeq arrays let researchers quickly analyze large amounts of sequence and genotype information across many individuals, an impractical feat using traditional sequencing methods.”

Applications include candidate gene studies, pharmacogenetic studies of genetic variation across patients in clinical trials, and pathogen subtyping to identify known and novel strains of microorganisms. The new array offers sequence alignment and allows content to be determined by the researcher.
