Gel Electrophoresis Imager

A new difference gel electrophoresis (DIGE) imager is a scanning charge coupled device (CCD) camera-based instrument created specifically for generating high-resolution images of the multi-channel two-dimensional (2D) gels produced by DICE experiments.

The Ettan imaging system, developed by GE Healthcare (Waukesha, WI, USA), was designed for highly sensitive imaging of Cy2, Cy3, and Cy5 fluorescent dyes, and provides an easy-to-use system for multi-channel imaging of 2D DIGE gels. It is also compatible with other fluorescently labeled gels in either a single channel or multi-channel modality. The high-resolution images produced can then be analyzed utilizing GE Healthcare's ImageMaster or DeCyder software.

"The Ettan DIGE imager is the first imaging instrument to be designed from the group up to meet the high permanence requirements of 2D DIGE,” commented Robert Marchmont, global marketing director for 2D labeling and detection, GE Healthcare. "Customers who want to take advantage of the benefits of DIGE technology for high-resolution protein separations but do not require the throughput or breadth of applications offered by our Typhoon imaging product will appreciate the combination of high sensitivity and ease of use offered by the Ettan DIGE imager.”
