A novel sterile, single-use cell sieve is ideal for preparing single cells for flow cytometry and to separate individual cells after organ digestion as part of the primary cell extraction process.

Greiner Bio-One (Kremsmuenster, Austria), a company that has focused on the development, production, and distribution of plastic laboratory products, has introduced EASYstrainer, a cell sieve for the filtration of cell suspensions.

To prevent sterile filter material from becoming contaminated through accidental contact EASYstrainer was designed with a circumferential mantle surface and handle fitted directly on the sieve. The unit is sealed in blister packaging that ensures reliable, aseptic removal of sieves from the pack.

The EASYstrainer features a venting slot between the collection tube and the attached cell sieve. Air in the tube escapes through this slot during the rapid filtration step, and overflow is avoided. This special property prevents the accumulation of filtration liquid between the sieve and tube and thus the associated risk of contamination.

EASYstrainer is suitable for all standard 50 ml tubes and is available in mesh widths of 40, 70, and 100 microliters.
