European collection device patents have been awarded to an American manufacturer to protect its new lines of specimen collection swabs.

The new European patents augment US and Canadian patents that have been granted to Puritan Medical Products (Guilford, ME, USA) to protect its HydraFlock and PurFlock Ultra lines of collection swabs.

These swabs, which are used in viral and bacterial transport systems, combine a unique microstructure with innovative fibers that have proven to be more effective than older-style nylon products. The individually wrapped swabs have large tips for maximum absorbency and a break point located 80 mm up the swab handle.

“These new patents solidify Puritan’s global reputation as the specialty swab manufacturer,” said Timothy Templet, vice-president of global sales at Puritan Medical Products. “Puritan has once again proven its ability to invent and manufacture high-performing products for use as specimen collection devices.”

In addition to the PurFlock Ultra and HydraFlock swabs, Puritan manufactures more than 35 other types of specimen collection devices, including swabs, and media-filled transport systems.
