Swabs Combine Higher Absorption and Faster Elution

The unique microstructure and fibers of HydroFlock swabs enhance their rapid absorption and complete elution of biological specimens. The sterile swabs have plastic handles and the overall length is 153.4 mm. A HydroFlock swab with a minitip is also available.

Puritan Diagnostics LLC, a division of Puritan Medical Products Co. LLC. (Guilford, MN, USA) has received a Canadian patent and will soon be receiving a United States patent for the HydraFlock swab. The patents are awarded to Puritan for both the manufacturing method and for the HydraFlock product itself. Patents for the HydraFlock swab are pending in other countries throughout the world.
The Puritan Liquid Amies Transport System has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA; Silver Spring, MD, USA). Previously approved for sale in Europe, the Liquid Amies System, which includes the HydraFlock swab collection device, is now available in the US, together with Puritan’s Universal Transport System (UTM)-RT.
The Liquid Amies system and the UTM-RT transport system are designed to for safe and effective pre-analytical specimen collection and transport to the laboratory. They accommodate both automation and traditional liquid specimen processing in clinical laboratories, including culturing and gram staining.
