An online mobile app enables users to have in-depth information on hundreds of laboratory tests.

LabTestsOnline-M is the mobile version of Lab Tests Online, the website developed by laboratory professionals that has helped users to understand better the many clinical lab tests that are part of routine healthcare, diagnosis, and treatment.

On the tenth anniversary of Lab Tests Online the mobile app was launched for Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, and Android phones and tablets. LabTestsOnline-M was introduced at the 2011 Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo in Atlanta (GA, USA) on July 24, 2011.

Once the app is downloaded, users do not need an Internet connection to access the site’s content; the information resides on their devices. The user-friendly app automatically searches for content updates each time it is opened. While the website is offered for free, the app costs 99 cents.

With the new app, users have in-depth information everywhere they go on hundreds of laboratory tests. “The app features descriptions of tests that are used to screen for, diagnose, and treat a wide range of conditions,” said George Linzer, executive producer of the site. “Now users can find out about a specific test at the point-of-care so that they can put their lab work in the proper medical context while they’re waiting to see their doctor.”

Lab Tests Online was developed by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry in collaboration with 16 other laboratory professional societies in the United States and Canada. On the web, Lab Tests Online is currently available or in development in 17 countries and 14 languages, and was used by 30 million people in 2010. Among its many honors, Lab Tests Online received a Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives as an “innovative contribution that has enhanced American society.”
