A fully automated platform has been introduced that combines cell-based screening and high throughput flow cytometry and efficiently incorporates analysis capabilities. Potential applications include antibody screening, cytotoxicity studies, and biomarker analysis.

Flow cytometry (FC) is a technique for counting and examining cell suspensions by an electronic detection apparatus. This is one of the most sensitive methods for identifying fluorescent markers on cells and has now been integrated with proprietary technology and an advanced server-based informatics platform.

High Throughput Flow Cytometry (HTFC) Screening System uses HyperCyt, an automated sampler that transfers cells from microplate wells to the flow cytometer by means of peristaltic pump. The series of cells and air gaps are introduced into the cytometer in a highly controlled fashion. The data from each plate is stored in a single file and analyzed using HyperCytPRO, an advanced server based informatics platform. The simple, yet powerful apparatus allows for cost effective screening of more compounds, a broad range of experiments and analysis of complex data.

The HTFC screening system is produced by IntelliCyt Corporation (Albuquerque, NM, USA), which provides cell and bead-based screening products for life sciences and the pharmaceutical industry. The HTFC system can be used to differentiate cell populations or multiplexed bead suspensions from either 96-well or 384-well microplates at a rate of 40 wells per minute. A significant reduction in overall costs can be made as the apparatus can accommodate very small samples and minimal quantities of reagents.

R. Terry Dunlay, IntelliCyt president and CEO said, "By coupling our high-throughput sampler with the large dynamic range and multiplexing capability of flow cytometry-based detectors, the HTFC Screening System provides scientists with powerful advantages over other currently available technologies."
