An inverted routine microscope combines outstanding optics with state-of-the-art light-emitting diode (LED) illumination. The low-maintenance light source with no heat build-up, the long free-working distances, generous space for operation, and the system's high stability, create ideal conditions for microscopy with live samples.

The new inverted microscope from Leica (Wetzlar, Germany) called Leica DM IL LED and the fluorescence variant Leica DM IL FLUO, are extremely versatile and can be individually configured with a wide range of optics and accessories--advantages that are unique in this class of microscope.

The Leica DM IL LED is suitable for a wide variety of cell and tissue culture examinations in biology and medicine, for studies in development biology, or micromanipulation, and live cell experiments in transgenics or electrophysiology. The Leica DM IL FLUO variant offers versatile application potential for fluorescence applications such as green fluorescence protein (GFP) labeling and it can be supplied with LED fluorescence illumination.

The two microscopes are flexible and modular. The transmitted light illumination, optimized condensers, and contrasting techniques are especially suitable for cytobiologic applications. All available contrasting techniques are adjusted easily and quickly to individual requirements. The integrated modulation contrast (IMC) is a special advantage. This unique technique, further developed by Leica Microsystems, does not require special objectives.

Leica Microsystems is a leading designer and producer of innovative, high technology precision-optical systems for the analysis of microstructures. Its business areas include microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy with corresponding imaging systems, specimen preparation, and medical equipment. The company manufactures a broad range of products for numerous applications requiring microscopic imaging, measurement, and analysis. It offers system solutions for life science including biotechnology and medicine.
