Microscope Lenses Include Higher Numerical Aperture Objectives

A manufacturer of high precision ultraviolet (UV) optical systems has expanded its range of UV lenses to include a high numerical aperture (NA) UV microscope objective with a numerical aperture of 0.90. This complements the current high NA UV line that includes 0.75 NA and 0.50 NA objectives.

The features of high NA UV objectives are the diffraction limited design, the air spacing for high power applications, and the achromatic design. Therefore, the new line of UV lenses offers a higher level of performance compared with standard microscope objectives. The NA UV micro objective provides 0.28-micron spot imaging at a wavelength of 248 nm and 0.41-micron spot imaging at a wavelength of 365 nm. The effective focal length is 5.5 mm and the field of view is 100 microns.

The lenses were designed by Special Optics, Inc. (Wharton, New Jersey, USA), a company that supplies precision optical assemblies for high-technology applications, and serves the medical, defense, security, semiconductor, and commercial original equipment manufacturer (OEM) markets.

Special Optics is a Navitar (Rochester, NY, USA) company. Navitar supplies optics, optomechanical sub-assemblies, and optoelectronic solutions for microscopy, automation, nanotechnology, and other systems. It has offices and subsidiaries in the United States, Japan, Germany, China, Israel, and the United Kingdom.
