New Urine Test Expands Mycotoxin Analysis to 31 Markers for Broader Exposure Assessment
Posted on 24 Sep 2026
Clinical evaluation of mold exposure increasingly relies on urinary mycotoxin testing, but limited marker coverage and metabolite masking can make results more difficult to interpret. Broader analysis from a single urine specimen could provide a more complete picture of potential exposure and help clinicians consider laboratory findings alongside symptoms and exposure history. A newly launched test expands urinary mycotoxin analysis to 31 markers and combines enhanced hydrolysis with liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry to improve analytical detection.
The Mycotoxin Extensive Panel from RealTime Laboratories (Carrollton, TX, USA) is a urine-based assay that measures 31 clinical markers associated with potential mold exposure. In addition to mycotoxins such as satratoxins, roridins, and trichothecenes, the panel includes 16 newly added targets, including Chaetoglobosin A, Citrinin, and Fumonisins. Testing requires a single urine sample and is available through healthcare provider networks as well as direct-to-consumer channels; the panel is also HSA/FSA-eligible.
The assay uses liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) together with a proprietary hydrolysis step designed to address metabolite modifications that can mask certain compounds in urine. By helping release these modified forms, the workflow may improve detection of mycotoxins that could be missed by standard approaches. The method is intended to provide a broader view of potential exposure from a single specimen and support interpretation alongside other clinical findings.
RealTime Laboratories is a CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited clinical laboratory. The new panel expands its range of integrative testing options, which also includes the All-Tox Profile and MOE-Tox Complete Profile. These tests assess mycotoxin exposure alongside environmental pollutants, heavy metals, and organic acids. The laboratory also offers an environmental mold and mycotoxin assessment (EMMA), which evaluates environmental samples for mold and for the same mycotoxins measured in urine by the Mycotoxin Extensive Panel.
“The expansion of our mycotoxin panel and methodologies underscores our commitment to diagnostic accuracy and rigorous laboratory standards. Serving as partners to both practitioners and patients, RealTime Labs empowers informed clinical action, improving confidence in treatment decision making,” said Jack Frausing, CEO of US BioTek, parent company of RealTime Labs.
“For practitioners, the value of comprehensive testing is having more information to consider as part of the overall clinical picture. By expanding the number of markers measured and using an expanded methodology designed to capture a wider range of mycotoxin metabolites, the panel builds on RealTime Labs' existing testing capabilities and provides additional context to support clinical decision-making,” said Marjorie Peak, ND, consulting physician for RealTime Labs.
