New Journal Addresses Evolving Needs in Clinical and Translational Pathology

Clinical pathology underpins diagnosis and therapy selection across oncology and other major diseases, but the field is rapidly evolving as new technologies reshape how disease is studied and classified. In 2020, there were an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and 10.0 million cancer deaths worldwide, while China reported 4.82 million new cases and 2.57 million deaths in 2022, underscoring sustained diagnostic demand. At the same time, pathology practice is moving beyond morphology alone toward multidimensional, high-throughput analysis. A new international journal now launches to support this shift by advancing disease-mechanism research and clinical translation.

Pathology Research is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing advances in experimental, translational, and clinical pathology. It aims to pioneer a holistic understanding of disease as a dynamic ecosystem by integrating study of the microenvironment, microbiota, metabolite, nervous system, and pathophysiology. The journal seeks to bridge basic discovery and clinical application by convening pathologists, clinicians, computer scientists, and biomedical researchers.

The scope encompasses surgical and molecular pathology, artificial intelligence in pathology, and spatial multi-omics and molecular genetics. Content types include original research articles, reviews, guidelines, case reports, consensus statements, perspectives, and commentaries. By covering this breadth, the publication targets the full translational continuum from mechanism to diagnostic practice.

An international editorial board of leading experts in pathology and related interdisciplinary fields will oversee comprehensive, rigorous peer review and uphold high standards of academic integrity. The stated goal is to establish Pathology Research as a leading platform in the field. The launch invites contributions that aim to improve disease diagnosis, optimize treatment strategies, and reduce the global burden of diseases.
