Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. (Palm Springs, CA, USA) has acquired nAscent BioSciences, Inc. (Wellesley Hills, MA, USA), a supplier of innovative liquid-handling consumables for drug discovery screening applications.

The nAscent product lines include the PocketTip pipette tip, which will be integrated into Thermo Fisher Scientific's existing liquid-handling consumables business. The tips are standard lengths and are designed to fit standard 96- and 384-heads on existing equipment. The customers receive the tips in the same standard footprint tip racks as those used for other tips and load the same way.

PocketTip technology combines nanoliter metering with microliter diluting in a pipette tip for most commercially available liquid handling automated platforms. The product provides scientists with a tool that significantly reduces time, reagents, consumables, and labor traditionally required for primary and secondary screening during drug discovery.

"A key element of our business strategy is to provide our customers with innovative and differentiated products that deliver real workflow solutions for drug discovery,” said Timo Hilden, vice president and general manager of Thermo Fisher Scientific's liquid-handling consumables business. "This acquisition is in line with that product portfolio strategy and also expands Thermo Fisher Scientific's capabilities in the increasingly important area of nanoliter liquid handling.”
