The launch of a Lateral Flow Division for the development, manufacturing, and distribution of immunochromatographic rapid tests has been announced by AspenBio, Inc. (Castle Rock, CO, USA).

Immunochromatographic tests are used to determine the presence or absence of minute quantities of target analyte in various types of samples within a few minutes and are particularly useful as clinical diagnostic tools. One example is the home pregnancy test. The tests can save clinicians up to 12 hours of laboratory time by replacing immunoblotting in some cases. AspenBio has developed tests for insulin, luteinizing hormone, growth hormone, alpha fetoprotein (AFP), mouse IgG, and thyroid stimulating hormone.

"Adding this division to AspenBio's capabilities is in response to requests from universities, research facilities, and veterinarians,” said Dr. Mark Colgin, chief scientist. "These initial devices, in addition to others currently being developed, will assist technicians, scientists, and doctors with reduced analytical costs and shortened turnaround times.”
