Real Diagnostics Adds Saliva-Based Periodontal Testing With SimplyTest Deal

Real Diagnostics (Reisterstown, MD, USA) has acquired SimplyTest (Huntsville, AL, USA), a provider of saliva-based diagnostic tests for oral health. The acquisition adds the SimplyTest PERIO product to Real Diagnostics’ high-complexity molecular diagnostic laboratory portfolio for dental providers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

SimplyTest PERIO uses a proprietary non-invasive swish-and-spit saliva sample. The test identifies key periodontal pathogens and provides clinicians with organism-level data. This information is intended to help personalize therapy and monitor patient periodontal health over time.

Real Diagnostics is a CLIA-certified laboratory specializing in high-complexity molecular infectious disease and toxicology testing. Its menu includes PCR-based assays for urinary tract and sexually transmitted infections, vaginosis, and respiratory infections, alongside toxicology services. The laboratory also combines micro-lab methods with molecular testing to assess phenotypic antibiotic resistance and provide patient- and pathogen-specific insights for antibiotic treatment.

The addition of SimplyTest PERIO extends the Real Diagnostics portfolio into oral health and expands the provider types served to include dental practices. Providers can access oral health testing through one laboratory relationship. The PERIO product and provider support will continue without interruption, and testing will continue to be performed under CLIA-certified laboratory standards.
