New UK Collaboration Expands Access to Integrated Alzheimer’s Diagnostic Testing

C2N Diagnostics and Cambridge Cognition have partnered with The Alzheimer’s Trust to create an integrated pathway aimed at supporting earlier and more accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The pathway combines C2N Diagnostics’ UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)-registered PrecivityAD2 blood test with Cambridge Cognition’s CANTAB Pathway digital touchscreen cognitive assessment platform and The Alzheimer’s Trust’s nationwide phlebotomy and MRI infrastructure. UK-based healthcare professionals can now order both PrecivityAD2 and CANTAB Pathway through The Alzheimer’s Trust.

PrecivityAD2 uses high-resolution mass spectrometry to measure the amyloid beta protein isoforms Aβ42 and Aβ40, calculate the Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio, and quantify the percentage of tau phosphorylated at amino acid 217 (%p-tau217). These measures are combined through a proprietary algorithm to generate the Amyloid Probability Score 2 (APS2), which indicates the likelihood of amyloid plaque pathology. 

The CANTAB Pathway complements the blood test by providing a tiered series of digital cognitive tasks designed to offer progressively deeper insight into a patient’s cognitive function. The platform has also demonstrated sensitivity to blood biomarkers associated with brain amyloid pathology.

PrecivityAD2 achieved MHRA medical device registration in 2025, marking its first in vitro diagnostic approval worldwide, and was subsequently cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an aid in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. In a prospective study published in JAMA involving more than 1,200 patients in primary and specialty care, the clinically validated PrecivityAD2 algorithm achieved a 92% negative predictive value and 91% positive predictive value using a predefined single cutoff. With a two-cutoff approach, both values reached 95%.

Additional evidence supporting the combined use of blood biomarkers and digital cognitive testing comes from a Nature Medicine study conducted across 19 general practitioner clinics in Sweden. In that study, a self-administered digital cognitive assessment combined with the blood biomarker algorithm achieved 90% diagnostic accuracy, compared with 70% accuracy for standard-of-care assessment in general practice.
