Contract for Servicing Diagnostic Systems Extended

Diagnostic systems, including MRI scanners, CT scanners, and ultrasound systems, as well as laboratory systems, surveillance monitors, and anesthesia units will be continuously monitored and serviced for the University of Pennsylvania Health system (Philadelphia, PA, USA).

One of the largest health systems in the United States, the University of Pennsylvania Health System is comprised of many departments for patient care, education, and research. It has awarded a US$135 million contract for Integrated Service Management to Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany). The seven-year contract is a continuous extension of a previous eight-year agreement.

Siemens (Malvern, PA, USA) will be servicing and ensuring around-the-clock availability of diagnostic systems and biomedical devices from diverse manufacturers in the Pennsylvania Health System's various hospitals. Because diagnostic systems are constantly monitored via a data link for remote services, faults can be repaired without having to send a service engineer to the installation site. Siemens also provides consulting services to the clinics on workflow optimization and offers advanced training for service engineers and operating personnel.

"We decided to continue our long and productive relationship with Siemens after a rigorous review process. Siemens will help us deliver safe and cost-effective care," said Kevin Mahoney, senior vice president and chief administrative officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
