In IMV's 2008 ServiceTrak annual report Sysmex America (Mundelein, IL, USA) was ranked best in hematology instrument reliability and industry for the ninth consecutive year. Sysmex also ranked first in 21 of the 30 survey factors, including all five Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) service performance factors and all five manufacturer and instrument performance factors. The IMV ServiceTrak survey respondents include clinical laboratory department supervisors, laboratory managers, and technologists chosen at random from hospitals of varying sizes from across the country.

For customer satisfaction, Sysmex hematology instruments also ranked first in MD Buyline's January 2009 User Satisfaction Ratings. MD Buyline survey respondents include technologists and clinicians from hospitals and clinical reference laboratories located throughout the United States. MD Buyline is a comprehensive database of information on healthcare products.

"Regardless of the healthcare industry's economic concerns, we know our customers must provide high quality care for their patients. As a healthcare partner to many of the nation's healthcare facilities, we are honored that our hematology instruments have met their needs in reliability and performance expectations," said John Kershaw, president, Sysmex America, Inc.

Instrument reliability also impacts clinical laboratory performance metrics such as results turnaround time and repeat rate. Switching to backup analyzers could create issues with shifting normal ranges and consistency of results used in patient trending analysis. "Therefore, clinical laboratories will want to assess their instrument capability relative to their effect on service lines, care pathways, medical errors, and patient flow," added Mr. Kershaw.

Sysmex America, Inc., the U.S. headquarters of Sysmex Corporation (Kobe, Japan), distributes and supports automated in vitro diagnostic hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis analyzers, reagents, and information systems for laboratories and healthcare facilities throughout the Western Hemisphere. The company focuses on extending the boundaries of diagnostic science while providing the management information tools that make a real difference in clinical and operational results for people worldwide.
