New Company to Develop Rapid CSF Detection Kit

A new company has been formed to develop and commercialize a rapid test for detecting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

NeuroPro Technologies, Inc. (Modesto, CA, USA) and Pipeline Biomedical Holdings, LLC, announced that they have signed an agreement to form a new company, Pipeline-Neuro, LLC, which will exist specifically for the purpose of developing the test. Development will begin immediately.

CSF leak is an escape of the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord, from the cavities within the brain, or from the central canal in the spinal cord. Current methods of positively identifying CSF take two days to two weeks for results, during which time the doctor may admit the patient and needlessly treat him/her for a CSF leak. A rapid test for detecting CSF will help emergency room clinicians detect CFS leaks that could lead to dangerous infections in the brain or spine.

NeuroPro founder and practicing neurosurgeon Benjamin J. Remington, M.D., said, Determining whether there is a CSF leak is a critical point in the diagnosis of a head injury. A quick and accurate answer helps the patient get the right treatment immediately and can help avoid unnecessary expenses.
