The most common coagulation tests performed include PT, aPTT, and D Dimer. While in some labs there is a need for PT, aPTT, D Dimer, and fibrinogen, others such as (component separation) blood banks routinely perform fibrinogen and Factor VIII. Another customer set, specializing in coagulopathy, tests for certain rare parameters. However, not all available systems are equipped to cater to these requirements. Also in need of immediate attention are: not having small reagent pack sizes for D Dimer and unavailability of timely service in remote areas.

Towards resolution of these critical issues and catering to diverse customer needs, Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd (Mumbai, India), launched two advanced coagulation analyzers: ERBA ECL 105 – Single Channel and ERBA ECL 412 – Four Channel. Both analyzers use an innovative technology thereby providing highly accurate and precise results at affordable cost.

Both instruments include the following key highlights and features: LCD touchscreen graphical display; built-in incubator for cuvette; facility for reagent incubation through magnetic stirring of reagents (especially beneficial for mixing silica or latex based reagents as they require constant stirring to maintain suspension of particulate matter); inbuilt robust thermal printer; Connectivity through USB ports, ethernet ports, and RFID detection facility; storage of data and coagulation clotting curves is possible on an external drive. The test menu includes comprehensive range of tests from clotting to chromogenic (only onECL 412) and immunologic tests; light scattering principle is used for performing assays - Clotting (640 nm), Chromogenic (405 nm), and D Dimer (800 nm). The software is user-friendly, with minimal, simple logical inputs in programming tests, multi-standard calibration, plotting multilevel quality control (QC) points, and running tests. It also includes proven technology of coagulation curve in percentage light scatter for clot detection.

The ERBA ECL 105/412 performs comprehensive coagulation tests in semiautomated systems. The tests (such as fibrinogen, factors assays, Lupus anticoagulant, AT III (only on ECL 412), Protein C, Protein S, and D Dimer) are programmed and can be performed with minimum effort. The QC plotting has been programmed keeping in mind the accreditation requirement of laboratory. Multilevel QC for each test is possible, a feature still rare in many single- and four-channel analyzers.
