Dipstick Control Monitors Urine Tests

A point-of-care dipper urine-dipstick control monitors the performance of visual and instrumental readings of urine dipsticks by immersing the dipstick into the control–the same way patient samples are tested.

The liquid control is made from human urine and it simulates patient testing. It is stable at when stored at 2 °C to 8 °C after being opened for 3 months (20 dips) and unopened for 18 months. It is stable at room temperature for one month when opened—this allows for maximum portability.

The Dipper, the Dropper, and the Dropper Plus are all products of Quantimetrix Corp. (Redondo Beach, CA, USA). The urine dipstick-control solution is the same in all three products. However, the packaging configuration, procedure for dipstick testing, and relative stability are different. With the Dipper, a technician actually dips the dipstick into the vial of solution. With the Dropper and Dropper Plus, a technician drops the solution onto the reagent pads.

Values for all dipstick analytes plus microalbumin and creatinine as well as qualitative results for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) early pregnancy detection test methods are included. The control is designed for use with most urinalysis reagent strips. It can also be used for confirmatory tests and refractometry.

Quantimetrix develops and manufactures clinical diagnostic products for domestic and international distribution including Lipoprint, a test for measuring LDL subfraction cholesterol. Other products include urinalysis, general chemistry, and specialty chemistry controls. They are liquid, ready to use, with long-term stability. Additional products include electrophoresis systems, diagnostic assays, and OEM.
