Testing Breaks Down 22 Components of Cholesterol in Single Test

A new cholesterol test reports 22 separate components of cholesterol in a single test, including Lp(a), apoB, apoAI, and the apoB/apoAI ratio, at no additional cost, which saves healthcare dollars and maximizes risk identification. The new test also identifies markers of metabolic syndrome, frequently associated with early diabetes.

Atherotech, Inc. (Birmingham, AL, USA) presented its VAP cholesterol test at Internal Medicine 2010, the annual scientific meeting of the American College of Physicians (ACP) April 22-24, 2010, in Toronto, Canada. Unlike the standard lipid profile, the VAP test directly measures low-density lipoprotein (LDL); therefore fasting is not required.
