The American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC), the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC; Atlanta, GA, USA) will cosponsor a one-day conference on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in Atlanta, GA (USA). The conference is titled, "The Lab's Changing Role in Managing Infectious Diseases."

Speakers will discuss recent advances in infectious disease testing, which have provided the core laboratory with opportunities to take a more prominent role in the care of patients with infectious, and sexually transmitted, diseases. The size of the current and future market for ID testing, antimicrobial resistance, validating laboratory tests, emerging molecular platforms, and managing infectious risk in the clinical laboratory are among the topics to be presented at the conference.

The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC; Washington DC, USA) is a professional society dedicated to improving healthcare through laboratory medicine.

The conference is being supported in part by an educational grant from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics (Deerfield, IL, USA), a leading clinical diagnostics company. Siemens offers products and services designed for efficient delivery of patients test results, for diagnosing medical conditions, and monitoring therapy.
