Toolkit for Reductive Amination in Drug Discovery

Posted on 23 Jun 2003
A toolkit is designed to simplify the incorporation of reductive amination in chemical drug discovery.

Conventional product workup and purification for reductive amination can be time-consuming and inefficient. In contrast, the resin-bound reagents and scavengers in the toolkit deliver high-purity products requiring only a simple filtration step for product purification. The format allows rapid comparison of pre-defined protocols to determine the best procedure for specific target compounds.

The resin-bound reductants in the toolkit include MP-triacetoxyborohydride and MP-cyanoborohydride. The toolkit is the product of Argonaut Technologies, Inc. (Foster City, CA, USA; www.argotech.com). The company notes that according to The Comprehensive Medicinal Drug Database, about 75% of all chemical drugs currently in development could utilize this reaction.

"Drug discovery and medicinal chemists need simpler access to the chemical compounds generated using this reaction class,” said Howard D. Goldstein, senior vice president of Argonaut Technologies. "Reductive amination is a powerful tool that's used routinely to generate structurally diverse drug candidates.”
