A collaborative agreement to develop a new technology platform for managing the analysis of protein networks of whole cells in situ, known as topologic proteomics or toponomics, has been announced by MelTec GmbH (Magdeburg, Germany) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT, Sankt Augustin, Germany). Under the agreement, the two companies will work together to develop new software-based approaches to analyze and visualize protein networks and then correlate that data with results from in vitro and in vivo experiments. They will combine the robotic toponomics imaging technology of MelTec with the image management and proteomics software of FIT. The system will be designed to rapidly produce high-quality results for understanding how proteins impact a drug's effectiveness.
"Our alliance will allow us to create an integrated environment that enables biologists to quickly identify and validate functional aspects of living cells,” said Dr. Thomas Berlage, director of FIT.
