A new Western Blotting Detection Kit is designed to enable scientists to visualize and identify proteins that previously went undetected due to their low concentrations.

Called ECL Advance, the kit contains the highest sensitivity chemiluminescent substrate available for the detection of immobilized protein, says the marketer, Amersham Biosciences (Little Chalfont, UK). ECL Advance is a proprietary new substrate licensed exclusively to Amersham by Lumigen, Inc. (Southfield, MI, USA). A feature called Advance Blocking Agent controls backgrounds and ensures a high level of signal intensity. Antibody concentrations can also be reduced to previously unmatched levels, allowing stocks of these potentially valuable preparations to be conserved.

‘With optimized reagents, ECL Advance offers both the highest sensitivity chemiluminescent Western blotting and the ability to reduce the concentration of antibody, thereby saving on the cost and supply of these valuable resources,” said Pieter Noordeloos, vice president marketing, proteomics, Amershambiosciences. The company says the ECL Advance is up to 10 times more sensitive than other chemiluminescent Western Blotting detection kits.
