New System for Proteomics Research

Posted on 17 Sep 2002
A new system allows scientists to extract and manage the information needed to identify, characterize, and quantify expressed proteins. Included is 2-D gel analysis software that helps researchers browse, examine, interpret, detect, and match all 2-D gel images and data.

The system, called Proteineer, was developed by Bruker Daltonics (Bremen, Germany). Nonexclusive rights for the worldwide distribution of the gel analysis software, called Melanie, was granted to Bruker by Geneva Bioinformatics S.A. (GeneBio, Geneva, Switzerland). Proteineer is a line of mass spectrometers integrated with robotics and bioinformatics to deliver maximum productivity in high-throughput expression proteomics.

"We believe proteomics research scientists will be pleased to have the Melanie software available and fully integrated with Proteineer,” said Dr. Herbert Thiele, director of bioinformatics at Bruker Daltonics.
