System for Studying Dynamics of Living Cells

A new system enables the use of living cells in automated assays and provides the automation and software to perform complex assays involving measurements of cellular events before and after the addition of compounds and reagents. The system is called the KenticScan HCS (high content screening) Reader.Posted on 09 Jun 2002
The system includes validated biologic applications, control software, an integrated pipette system, a fast and continuous laser auto-focus device, and an environmentally controlled chamber. The HCS Reader enables the measurement of biologic processes within numerous individual cells within a population, cellular processes that are routinely missed when analyzing aggregate cell population responses. The system was developed by Cellomics, Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA, USA).
The KineticScan HCS Reader will become the cornerstone for assay development, target validation, lead optimization, and mechanistic investigations in drug discovery,” said DR. Jeffrey Haskins, vice president of assay development at Cellomics. The company says its automated platform is reducing the time needed for drug discovery while increasing the probability of the therapeutic success of leads.
