A new instrument that automates laboratory workflow by linking microplate washers and dispensers with readers and imaging systems is now available for biotech and other life sciences researchers.

Typical applications for the BioTek Instruments (Winooski, VT, USA) new BioSpa 8 Automated Incubator include: automated live cell assays; ELISA automation; multiple assays such as cell maintenance and live cell imaging assays running in parallel; and automated kinetic measurements on multiple microplates in parallel. The instrument will automatically perform all washing, dispensing, imaging, and reading steps.

The BioSpa 8 platform includes real time temperature, humidity, and CO2/O2 control and monitoring functions. Furthermore, the instrument has a compact footprint that allows it to fit within a biosafety enclosure.

The key feature of the BioSpa 8 is its robotic arm, which moves microplates, cell culture dishes and flasks, between its environment-controlled drawers and integrated instruments. The BioSpa system software integrates with the linked instrument's software for efficiency and programming ease, precisely controlling all operations for short or long-term uninterrupted runs.
