Biotechnology and other life science researchers now have available an extraction system for larger volumes that prepares samples of up to one milliliter for LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy) or GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy) analysis.Posted on 30 Jun 2014
The Biotage (Uppsala, Sweden) ISOLUTE SLE+ One Milliliter Supported Liquid Extraction 48-well plate system enables the extraction of larger sample volumes (one milliliter total load volume) than is presently possible in the standard microplate format.
The new format tubes are packed with ISOLUTE SLE+ material, with each well containing sufficient ISOLUTE SLE+ material to efficiently extract one milliliter of aqueous sample. This is an alternative to the existing 96-well formats, which have a maximum capacity of 400 microliters. Larger sample volumes enable the researcher to generate higher sensitivity, higher throughput, and lower detection limits.
The ISOLUTE SLE+ plate is arranged in a six by eight array; with 48 samples being processed per plate. A new compatible 48-well collection plate is also available with a five milliliter capacity so that the entire elution solvent volume can be collected with no need to swap collection vessels.
The plates can be processed using microplate compatible positive pressure manifolds such as the Biotage Pressure+ 96, vacuum manifolds such as the Biotage VacMaster 96, and most automated liquid handling systems.
ISOLUTE SLE+ plates are ideal for the extraction of small molecule drugs, metabolites, and endogenous biomarkers from biological fluid samples prior to analytical techniques such as LC-MS/MS and GC-MS.
