A compact, yet powerful personal UV-Vis microvolume spectrophotometer is now available for purchase by biotech and other life science researchers.Posted on 31 Jan 2012
The Thermo Fisher Scientific (Milford, MA, USA) NanoDrop Lite spectrophotometer is small enough to fit in a drawer while maintaining the prowess of the mainline NanoDrop 2000/2000c and NanoDrop 8000 instruments.
The NanoDrop Lite measures nucleic acid concentration at 260 nm, purified protein concentration at 280 nm, and determines purity by using the 260/280 nm ratio. The instrument employs the unique NanoDrop microvolume sampling technology, which delivers the accuracy and reproducibility expected from this line of instruments. The NanoDrop Lite uses built-in controls and software, so a computer is not required. An optional printer capable of printing cryogenic labels is available.
“If our customers could have a NanoDrop on every bench, they would,” said Reinhold Mischau CEO of PEQLAB Biotechnologie GmbH (Erlangen, Germany). “NanoDrop Lite is the next best thing, however. Sharing or borrowing an instrument, especially when all you need is a quick measurement, is frustrating. Those days are over.”
