An upgraded liquid nitrogen storage system is based on space-saving, high-efficiency cryogenic storage containers.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Milford, MA, USA) introduced its new CryoExtra line of high-efficiency cryogenic storage containers.

These vacuum-insulated, stainless steel vessels are available in four different sizes, from 407 liters to 1,630 liters, accommodating both vapor- and liquid-phase storage. The units save valuable laboratory space, as the 1,630-liter container with the ability to store up to 90,000 1.2-2.0 mL vials has the same external footprint as the 1,350 liter (80,000 vials) unit.

The new cryogenic vessels feature automated level monitoring with current temperature display, high temperature alarm, liquid nitrogen level and alarms, sensor fail alarm, and filling status. Four thermistors monitor both the fill and control liquid nitrogen levels to ensure proper levels, with self-diagnostics to ensure reliable sensor functioning.

The CryoExtra line boasts an innovative lid and neck design that ensures stable temperature even during lid openings, conserving liquid nitrogen and maintaining temperature.

Optional racks, canisters, frames, and risers allow the user to create an organized inventory system that provides optimum storage in either liquid or vapor phase.
