A common fixture in biotech and life science laboratories, the pipette filler, has just become more economical, easier to use, and decorative.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Milford, MA, USA) has just released its new S1 Pipet Filler line. This lightweight, cordless pipette filler for use with graduated and volumetric glass and plastic serological pipettes allows longer, fatigue-free pipetting.

The S1 Pipet filler features a heavy-duty rechargeable lithium-ion battery that allows approximately three times longer operation between charges than typical units using nickel-cadmium batteries. Separate aspirate and dispense speed regulators afford precise control over pipetting speeds and reduces risk of over pipetting with smaller pipettes.

The S1 covers the complete volume range of 1 mL to 100 mL and has a large backlit LCD display with battery-charge and speed-set indicators that allow the user to tell whether there is enough power to complete the current run.

The instrument is available in five different colors and an identification area that make it easy to personalize, and which add a welcome spot of color to the lab decor. Each S1 Pipet Filler is supplied with a table- and wall-mounted holder, a one mL pipette support, a power supply, international power adapters, and a two-year international warranty.
