State-of-the-art liquid handling and microplate analysis instrumentation will be on display at an upcoming European drug-discovery conference.Posted on 05 Sep 2011
BioTek Instruments, Inc. (Winooski, VT, USA) will highlight several of their newest microplate instrumentation technologies at the fifth annual Drug Discovery Conference, which is to be held on September 7-8, 2011 in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Among the instruments to be displayed is the Synergy 4, a multidetection system capable of performing an unlimited number of microplate-based assays, which combines two powerful fluorescence detection systems, monochromator-based and filter-based, in one compact unit. Filter-based fluorescence technology provides optimal light filtering and purification for the best sensitivity. The quadruple monochromator-based fluorescence technology offers flexible wavelength selection, true spectral scanning, reduced background noise, and increased convenience.
The Synergy H1 Hybrid Multi-Mode Microplate Reader is a flexible monochromator-based multimode microplate reader. The monochromator optics uses a third generation quadruple grating design that allows working at any excitation or emission wavelength with a one-nanometer step. This system supports top and bottom fluorescence intensity, UV-visible absorbance, and high performance luminescence detection. It can handle all the standard microplate applications found in life science research laboratories.
The Eon Microplate Spectrophotometer has continuous wavelength selection from 200 nm to 999 nm, selectable in one-nanometer increments. Eon reads 6- to 384-well microplate formats, and offers an optional cuvette port. The instrument boasts an extended incubation option to 65 °C. Eon comes with the advanced Gen5 v 2.0 software package and is compatible with Take3 Micro-Volume plates for two µL measurements.
The Multiflo Microplate Dispenser accommodates microplate types ranging from 6- to 1,536-wells, and dispenses volumes of from one to three microliters accurately and precisely. MultiFlo offers a choice of either peristaltic pump or microprocessor controlled syringe drive technologies, and the researcher can purchase one channel now and add others in the future. Angled dispensing ensures compatibility with all dispense protocols including media exchanges with loosely adherent cell monolayers. For assays requiring minimum reagent usage, the MultiFlo's prime volume is less than one milliliter. A built-in priming trough is designed to allow both recovery of reagents or to send primed reagent directly to waste.
In addition, this conference marks the European debut of BioTek's ELx405 Select Deep Well Washer. This full plate washer automates aspirate and dispense steps in 96- and 384-well deep well microplates up to 50 mm high for increased washing efficiency compared to manual or hand-held methods.
