Purification of nucleic acids for research or diagnostic purposes will be easier and more effective when performed with a new dedicated instrument/software package.

The new Thermo Scientific (Milford, MA, USA) KingFisher Duo nucleic acid purification system combines the KingFisher magnetic particle processor instrument and the BindIt software package. In addition, the system includes optimized DNA/RNA isolation kits as well as dedicated plastic consumables.

The KingFisher Duo is a low- to medium-throughput system based on an instrument with a small benchtop footprint but with the ability to handle sample volumes up to five milliliters. The flexible, open system enables users to select from a variety of starting materials, from blood and other body fluids to cells and tissue samples. Nucleic acid products are highly purified and ready for accurate downstream analysis.

The manufacturer believes that the KingFisher Duo is ideal for research and diagnostic labs that require nucleic acid purification and maintain that the system may be easily modified for use in proteomics and cell isolation procedures.
