A new line of lightweight centrifuge rotors combines enhanced ergonomic features with a dual layer of security that protects laboratory workers from exposure to potentially dangerous biological agents or infectious aerosols.Posted on 02 Jun 2011
The Fiberlite LEX rotor series was recently introduced by Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Milford, MA, USA), a major supplier of medical and research instrumentation to the international bioresearch community.
Two new rotors, the Fiberlite F10-4x1000 LEX and the Fiberlite F12-6x500 LEX, exploit the full potential of carbon fiber technology and weigh 60% less than competing rotors. Nonetheless, the may be used at high speeds of RCF up to 16,880 x g and 24,515 x g respectively. The rotors' lower weight and attached lifting handle are indicators of improved ergonomics that enhance everyday safety and ease of handling.
In addition, Fiberlite LEX rotors feature a dual-locking lid that provides sample containment by enabling the rotor to remain sealed while being transported to a biological safety hood. The rotors also feature "Bioseal" technology and enhanced liquid containment features that prevents samples from escaping to the surrounding environment if spilled inside the rotor.
The Fiberlite rotors are corrosion-free and guaranteed for 15 years.
