Dedicated Microtiter Sampling Device Simplifies Nucleic Acid Measurements

A new generation microtiter plate-size sampling device is now available for researchers working with nucleic acids and nucleic acid applications such as DNA sequencing, PCR, and gene mapping.

Nucleic acid quantification and purity assessment are typically carried out using a UV spectrophotometer at wavelengths of 260 nm and 280 nm. Recently the demand for high-throughput capability has resulted in adaptation of microplate readers for scanning of 96-well or 384-well UV-transparent microplates.

Now, for the first time, a dedicated sampling and reading device for nucleic acids has become available. The Take3 Multi-Volume Plate is compatible with most BioTek Instruments, Inc. (Winooski, VT, USA) microplate readers.

The Take3 Multi-Volume Plate was designed to allow the quick and easy processing of up to 16 two-microliter sample measurements. The very short path length of the two-microliter sampling area abolishes the need for diluting concentrated sample solutions. In addition, the Take3 plate provides two locations for BioTek's patented BioCells, as well as a location for a standard cuvette, thus providing three methods of measurement from very low volumes to traditional cuvette volumes.

The Take3 comes with its own unique Gen5 interface for quick, preprogrammed measurements and results reporting for DNA, RNA, and protein quantification. The detection limit is typically about two nanograms per microliter of double stranded DNA.
