Gas Control Module Enhances Microtiter Plate Reader Performance

A gas control module is now available as an accessory for a top-of-the-line microtiter plate reader.

The Tecan (Männedorf, Switzerland) Infinite 200 PRO microtiter plate reader is described as offering excellent sensitivity, multiplexing capabilities, and high format flexibility, including 6- to 384-well microplates, PCR plates, cuvettes and Tecan's patent pending NanoQuant Plate for low sample volumes. The NanoQuant Plate is an innovative quartz-based tool that can measure up to 16 samples simultaneously, from just 2-microliter sample volumes. This extends the flexibility of the Infinite 200 PRO for microvolume spectrophotometry applications, such as quantitation of nucleic acids for quality control and labeling efficiency.

Now, Tecan has introduced the Gas Control Module (GCM) for the Infinite 200 PRO. An integrated gas inlet allows external control of carbon dioxide and oxygen, which maintains stable culture conditions and improves cell growth. Since variations in environmental conditions such as changes in pH and color of the media during incubation can lead to inconsistent and unreliable data in cell-based optical studies, precise regulation of oxygen or carbon dioxide levels within the reader chamber ensures a more stable culture environment over time. This enhances investigation of eukaryotic cell lines by achieving better cell viability and allowing the duration of cell-based experiments to be extended without adversely affecting results.

The GCM also ensures greater biological relevance for a wide range of studies, by allowing assays to be performed under hypoxic or physiological conditions.
