A new software package is available that complements and extends programs already available for manual and automated fluorescent and visible microscopy.

The "Multichannel 5D Solution” module has just been released by Olympus (Hamburg, Germany), a major manufacturer of microscopes and visual imaging systems.

The Multichannel 5D Solution module was designed to expand on the applications that comprise Olympus' "cellSens Dimension” software. It includes applications aimed at simplifying otherwise complicated microscopy experiments. These applications allow automated acquisition of Z-stacks, multiple fluorescence channels, and time-lapse series while integrating seamlessly with other Olympus hardware and software platforms. When used with the automated Extended Focal Imaging (EFI) tool it is possible to obtain perfectly focused images by extracting the sharpest features from each Z-stack before reassembling them into a single, clear image. In addition, the EFI tool can be used on the fly to display images in real time.

Users will be able to conduct a range of complex and highly sophisticated experiments, from extended focal imaging to multiple image alignment and multiposition imaging. In addition, live images can be transferred directly to the web using the "Netcam Solution” software, enabling rapid discussion with colleagues, wherever they are in the world.
