Nanoliter Range Liquid-Handling System Now Available to Biotech Researchers

A liquid handling system designed to operate accurately in the nanoliter range is now available to biotechnology and life science researchers.

The TTP LabTech's (Royston, United Kingdom) "mosquito X1” is the newest of the mosquito line of liquid handling instruments. In this case, the technology has been modified to best offer precision sampling of individual wells in microplate formats from 48 to 1,536 wells. In addition, the instrument can be programmed to obtain samples from nonstandard plate formats or from other sources such as glass cover slips.

The mosquito X1's proprietary positive displacement pipetting technology allows accurate sampling and transfer of volumes in the 25 nanoliter to 1.2-microliter range with a high degree of three-dimensional precision. In addition, the instrument is available with a multi-dispense option that can dispense into multiple wells – or wells within multiple plates- from a single aspiration, which increases speed and saves on consumables for sample replicates.

The manufacturer recommends the X1 to the biotech research community as the ideal tool to select clones from the primary screening stage and directly transfer them to the next stage with no need for further dilution.
