Preparation of purified proteins from cell lysates or bacterial cultures has been rendered easier and more reproducible following the development of a bench top automated protein purification system.Posted on 12 May 2010
Protein purification with the Invitrogen (part of Life Technologies Corporation (Carlsbad, CA, USA)) MAGic Sample Processor is based on separation protocols using "Dynabeads” magnetic (hence the capitalized MAG in MAGic) particles.
The MAGic Sample Processor incorporates innovative microfluidics, thermal controls, and integrated magnetic separation technology, which allows investigators to automate protein purification methods easily without relying on centralized facilities. The benchtop system is capable of simultaneously handling 12 samples using a proprietary cartridge to reduce the variability commonly attributed with traditional manual approaches, and easily runs standard or customized protocols. Additionally, the system is combined with new reagents based on the company's leading proprietary Dynabeads magnetic separation technology.
"The MAGic Sample Processor is designed to address reproducibility challenges in research,” said Nicolas Barthelemy, president of the cell systems division at Life Technologies. "Scientists are under pressure to be more productive and MAGic, along with our other bench top devices such as the iBlot Dry Blotting Device and the BenchPro 4100 Western Processing Device, is enabling researchers to spend less time doing repetitive work and more time where it matters - analyzing their results.”
