Researchers using molecular biological and molecular genetic techniques will benefit from the introduction of a series of new products designed to support investigators in such diverse fields as cancer research, biomarker identification, target validation, and drug development.Posted on 18 May 2009
The common denominator is the necessity of working with DNA and RNA. For research involving DNA Qiagen (Venlo, The Netherlands) has developed and is now placing on the market two dedicated kits for real-time PCR. The QuantiFast Multiplex RT-PCR kit enables one-step applications on both standard and fast real-time cyclers without requiring optimization. The Rotor-Gene Kit allows detection of up to four targets per tube and includes optimized protocols for Qiagen's Rotor-Gene Q instrument. These fast real-time PCR technologies provide speed and accuracy not only on fast cyclers, but also on standard cyclers. For applications such as siRNA gene silencing, these kits allow the real-time PCR workflow to be streamlined by eliminating the need for RNA purification while permitting analysis of multiple targets in one tube.
To speed the preparation of nuclear materials from tissue samples Qiagen suggests using the new TissueLyser LT. This instrument uses bead mill technology to break-up tissue and provide fast access to DNA, RNA, and proteins. This small, easy-to-operate bead mill can process up to 12 samples, fresh or frozen, in parallel using the carousel adaptor. The 12-sample format has the additional benefit of seamless integration with other QIAGEN automated instruments.
"QIAGEN offers the broadest portfolio of products on the market for manual and automated gene expression and function analysis,” said Dr. Annette Tietze, senior global product manager at Qiagen. "Our customers who perform real-time PCR and gene silencing are able to achieve success in all steps of their experiments without the need for optimization. Our newest products are helping customers standardize experiments, save time and cost due to ease of use, and provide reliable automation of higher throughput experiments.”
