Two European biotech companies have agreed to collaborate in the field of peptide synthesis in response to the upsurge in demand for increasingly longer, more complex peptides required by researchers to study protein interactions, produce peptide antibodies, and understand complex disease states.

The two firms, Biotage (Uppsala, Sweden) and MultiSynTech, GmbH (Witten, Germany) will establish a joint development project to design and market a new microwave-aided peptide synthesis system, which is expected to increase yield and speed in peptide synthesis. In addition Biotage will be granted distribution rights for all current MultiSynTech peptide synthesis systems. The partners will be positioned to dominate a rapidly growing market that is already valued at more than US$17 million per year.

"We look forward to working in close collaboration with Biotage. Biotage has a proven sales and support team that dramatically expands our coverage outside Central Europe, and really opens opportunities for our current products in USA, UK, Nordic, and Asian regions.” said Udo Treffer, CEO of MultiSynTech.

"MultiSynTech is the clear leader in robotic peptide synthesis. This joint development project will combine the proven performance of the current MultiSynTech robotic synthesizer with Biotage microwave technology in a unique integrated system,” said Torben Jørgensen, CEO of Biotage.
