Imaging System Accelerates Research By Streamlining Preclinical Workflow

A new flexible and open system provides a comprehensive solution for imaging analytics that includes complete image processing, quantification, and visualization tools designed for preclinical imaging.

The new Preclinical Workspace, developed by Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands), also features project-centric and hypothesis-driven workflow that supports four modalities: positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT), single photon computed tomography (SPECT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and is based on an expandable platform to accommodate current and future preclinical imaging needs. The Workspace can be used in conjunction with Philips' Mosaic HP and NanoSPECT/CT systems for centralized preclinical processing.

During this year's Joint Molecular Imaging Conference sponsored by the Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI) and the Society of Molecular Imaging (SMI) held in September 2007 in Providence, RI, USA, Philips presented its complete preclinical system range, including a new Preclinical Workspace, the Mosaic HP preclinical PET system with new software version, and the NanoSPECT/CT (available through a distribution agreement with Bioscan, Inc. (Washington DC, USA).

Philips Mosaic HP is equipped with high-performance LYSO detector technology. The dedicated preclinical PET system provides flexibility and efficiency for a wide range of preclinical research applications in oncology, cardiology, and neurology. The system's extra-long imaging bore and long axial field of view allows imaging of a variety of research fields and bio-distribution studies on a whole subject in a single scan. At the AMI/SMI meeting, Philips also launched a new software release for the Mosaic HP that will add several new functionalities and enhancements, such as cardiac gating application in list mode, CT attenuation correction and connectivity to the new Preclinical Workspace.

Another Philips imaging system, the NanoSPECT/CT, helps accelerate preclinical research, the discovery of new, targeted biomarkers, and the development and validation of new molecular diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The system enables fast, dynamic SPECT and dual-isotope imaging with ultra-high sensitivity and sub-millimeter resolution.
